Help with MarkDe.
MarkDe is a native Markdown editor for macOS. If something is not working the way you expect, start here — and if you do not find an answer, write to us directly.
Which versions of macOS does MarkDe run on?
MarkDe requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It is a native app built with SwiftUI and runs on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
Which file types can I open?
MarkDe opens .md, .markdown, .mdown, and .mkd files, along with plain text. It registers as an editor for Markdown documents, so you can set it as your default handler from Finder's Get Info panel.
What can I export to?
PDF, HTML, plain HTML, RTF, DOCX, EPUB, LaTeX, PNG, and JPEG. Every conversion runs inside the app — there is no separate tool to install and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Can I import existing documents?
Yes. MarkDe imports HTML, RTF, DOC, and DOCX files and converts them to Markdown so you can keep editing.
Does MarkDe sync across my devices?
If you enable iCloud in Settings, your documents sync through iCloud Drive using your own Apple account. Zyncraft never sees or stores your files.
Where do my backups live?
MarkDe keeps up to ten recent versions of each document in its own Application Support folder inside the app sandbox. You can restore or clear them from the app's backup panel.
A document did not save correctly. What should I do?
Open the backup panel first — a recent version of the document is very likely there. If a file will not open at all, email us the file if you are able to share it, along with your macOS version, and we will investigate.
